@Errin,

Congratulations! It sounds like you are making a huge difference in your community! It is amazing what these small steps can do to build community!

@Pam,

Thank you! We are really happy with the way it's turned out over the last two years.

@Vicki,

Kim,
What a brilliant idea to have monthly coffee technology meetings for the parents. I love it!

What a great initiative Kim. Such a positive way of keeping parents in touch with new trends in technology and how their children are learning at school. Well done!

I love your idea! As part of recent graduate coursework, I did information literacy presentations (with a good dose of internet safety) to the Parent Advisory Committees at two of the three schools in the town where I live.

Because over 60% of the student population is of First Nations origins (the town is surrounded by First Nations Reserves), I also approached the local First Nations Education Coordinators. I gave a 30 minute presentation to them and, as a result, I was invited to present in two other communities. It was an honour to speak to so many people, from young children to tribal chiefs to respected elders, on their land.

I was happy to pass along the important information literacy content, but the strengthening of my relationship with the parents and larger community was a welcome surprise.
